Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful....

This election is very important and I am excited because I feel that our choices are pretty good. I have a great deal of respect for John McCain and for Barak Obama. I think that they both have good intentions and will do what they feel is best for the country, which is a welcome change from the current Presidency's self serving agenda.
You expect the commentators on both sides of the spectrum to come up with talking points why one should or shouldn't be elected. I find it completely respectable to disagree with a person's voting record... or with a particular plan that you don't like in order to vote against someone or for someone for that matter.
Although, I am so offended by someone that says that they are not voting for a person because of "insert ridiculous lie or scare tactic mentioned in the last radio talk show". I have heard the most ridiculous things as of late about why people are not/ should not vote for Barak Obama. Seriously... can you not find something of real substance to talk about on these radio shows that you need to resort to complete fiction? The most shocking thing is that people... smart, educated people... buy into this crap. My husband came home and said that while at work "people" were talking about how we shouldn't vote for Obama because in the scriptures it says that the devil will ride in on a white horse... and Obama's mother was white. Are you kidding me?! This stuff makes me crazy!! Not because people say it... there will always be idiots spouting hate and bigotry... but that people actually will listen to it and spread it around as if it were true.
At a hospital I would expect that they would be more concerned with his Health Care plan and maybe that would be an interesting topic to get behind... but what do I know?

I love your posts! Ok, so Francois and I think the same thing about the ridiculous stuff that is out there. Francois' dad sent him an email about how Obama is the anti-Christ and stating why according to the Bible they are saying that! It is totally stupid, and a member of my family, who shall go unnamed recently told their daughter that Obama is a socialist who wants to take the money we earn from working hard and redistribute it to those who don't (he says it's unfair and he has t-shirts and bumper stickers saying not nice things about Obama). Now bear in mind this particular sibling received unemplyment money for months last year when out of a job and still gets money from the state for the 3 children that he has adopted. UGH! I can't talk to him about it though because I am a woos!

Like I said… I do not care if you vote against someone based on truth (their voting record). Although it makes no sense to me to base it on an issue, that even though they campaign so hard on it… have not changed it.
I like Ron Paul. I would vote for him if I thought that he had a remote chance to succeed. He is against the war, conservative on moral issues and has good ideas in health care.
Here is the website Neil to look at the truth behind the lies. http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fightthesmearshome
Yes.. he is liberal... and if you do not like that, fine... do not vote for him. I just cannot stand it when people cannot or do not choose to discern the lies from the truth.

I wasn't saying that Obama is or isn't a socialist; even though I don't feel as if he is a true socialist, all politicians seem to follow some sort of socialism or we wouldn't have any programs to help people, whether the government should be doing that or not. I mean most of the time money from government programs comes from the pocket of someone wealthier than the person receiving it. I just think that it's very hypocritical of someone who has taken advantage of programs that take money from someone else's pocket to put in his shouldn't be criticizing a politician who has policies that make the money available.
I still haven't really decided who is the better candidate but I know I don't want to continue along the same path that we've been on the last eight years.
With the deficit that has been built up whoever takes office will have to do something about it, and that probably means more taxes for all of us at some point.
As for socialism, well it sounds a lot like the law of consecration to me, so I highly doubt that any politician, true socialist or not, will be able to force that on our country. I am not a real political person and I admit that I am not an expert on either party or candidate. I just am frustrated with lies that are put out there as truths and the lies that are out there seem to be very one-sided which makes me skeptical about the other candidate. I've always rooted for the guy getting picked on. :->

Ok Neil, I know you aren't going to like that I said I don't think Obama is a true socialist so let me explain. I had to take a break because my little boy needed some mommy time. I think that all democrats do have some socialist in them because they believe in social programs, and yes taking money from the rich to give to the poor. But socialism seems to be a very disputed term and there are communist, Marxist, libertarian, democratic, etc. socialists. They don't seem to agree on a common definition. So, I think that Obama is a liberal democrat. According to Wikipedia "the democratic party believes that the government should play a role in alleviating poverty and social injustice..." How do you alleviate poverty other than taking money from the rich to give to the poor?

Ok. wait one more thing. I really don't think that the only way to alleviate poverty is to take from the rich and give to the poor, I was trying to be ironic, but reading back I don't think it comes off that way. I've enjoyed reading your posts Neil and it's great to see that you are so passionate about politics. Whether I agree or don't agree with you on your issues I think that more people in our country need to care about what is going on with our leadership. Thanks for your point of view.
